The Best Outdoor Activities for Toddlers This Spring

Spring has sprung in many areas. For most, that means it’s a great opportunity to spend more time outside with your young children. But what types of spring activities can be fun to do with your toddler?

Outdoor toddler activities can be fun, enjoyable, and rewarding. Safety is also a concern. Let’s talk about a number of fun, safe, enjoyable things you can do with your toddler outdoors as we enter the spring season.

1. Have a Picnic

This one is a lot of fun and super easy to do. You don’t even have to leave your property to do this. Just lay a blanket out in the yard, set up some outdoor-friendly plates and utensils, and enjoy your and your toddler’s favorite foods together. They will love eating outside!

2. Sidewalk Chalk

This is a fun, creative option that allows your child to draw, decorate, and create works of art on your driveway or sidewalk. Draw a picture together, or perhaps each of you draws the same thing, but separately. Take a picture of your masterpieces once they’re done and share them with others.

3. Bubble Blowing

As a toddler, there isn’t much cooler than bubbles. Going outside in the sun and blowing bubbles can make for an exciting afternoon. You can get a basic setup, a bigger, more advanced set, or even just make your own bubbles with a single bubble wand. Your child will enjoy seeing bubbles all over and chasing them around.

4. Neighborhood Clean-Up Walk

One thing toddlers love to do is to help. Not much else makes them feel proud and like a big kid than helping Mom or Dad with something. Take a fun walk around the neighborhood together and pick up garbage. Give them their own little bag, and you’ll be surprised at how much fun it can be, making your neighborhood look nicer.

5. Go for a Bike Ride Together

This can be fun and great exercise for you both. If your child is too small to ride a bike or a tricycle still, think about picking up a bike trailer that you can pull them around on. They will love it, and it will provide even more exercise for you!

6. Plant Flowers or a Garden

Fun fact: Little kids love digging in the dirt! And as mentioned previously, they love to help Mom and Dad. Pick some things you can agree to grow together at your local nursery, then have a fun, wonderful day planting your garden together. They will love seeing the progress of your flowers, plants, fruits, and vegetables growing.

As we head into the spring, these are six easy and fun things to do with toddlers. Just be sure to give them plenty of sunscreen and reapply every so often. Keep them hydrated as well, stay in shady areas to help keep them cool in the Arizona heat, and remember to make it fun!
